Newcrest’s Telfer Community Relations Department recently engaged with Telfer contractor, WBHO Infrastructure, creating a training program designed to get inexperienced Martu candidates ‘Work Ready’.
WBHO is conscious of creating mutually beneficial relationships between WBHO, Newcrest and the Martu community.
For Project Manager Marius Van Der Walt this is a priority. He said, “The partnership between WBHO and Telfer’s Community Relations Department creates win-win solutions for the community. Newcrest has a great commitment to the Martu people, and we are fortunate we can contribute by providing opportunities for the local community.”
The training program consists of Martu ‘buddies’ onsite, guiding trainees through all aspects of camp life and fitness for work before progressing to technical aspects of mining and construction.
On completion of the program, participants will have a greater understanding of the mining industry and a much easier start in training for future career prospects.
The ultimate goal is work placement for those successfully completing the program
