Johannesburg’s ‘Rea Vaya’ is one of Africa’s first Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) systems.
It involves links Johannesburg CBD and Braamfontein with Soweto, incorporating trunk routes on major highways, suburban routes.
Works involved numerous workfronts delivering complex brownfield multidisciplinary works. WBHO’s delivery of BRT packages principally involved:
- Construction of section 8, a key trunk route connecting the Gautrain Station in the Sandton CBD and an intermodal facility
- A separate 3.6km long portion extending from Bridge City to a new Bus Depot
- Construction of Sections 1 and 2, involving establishing dedicated ROW lanes on key urban roads for a distance of approximately 2km.
